As we prepare for the 2019 Baseball America Prospect Pad presented by Louisville Slugger, we are taking a look back at some of the past interviews.
Today, we highlight our 2017 interview with Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker. Tucker was in the midst of his best minor league year up to that point. He had just been promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi after hitting .288/.379/.544 with 9 homers in 48 games with High-A Buies Creek.
In the interview, he discusses his brother Preston Tucker and the influence he has had on him. WIth his brother having already experienced the life of a professional baseball player Kyle has been able to use him as motivation.
“It has driven me to play better because he is six/seven years older than me so I never got to play with him… hopefully I get my opportunity to play with him one day.”
He has also used his brother for advice on how to be successful as a baseball player. In the Prospect Pad interview, he talked about the best advice he has received from his brother.
“Act like a professional baseball player. It’s our job. Obviously, it’s a game you can go out and have fun but take it pretty seriously and get your work in.”
Although he has yet to play with his brother, Kyle has gone on to make his own big league debut.
