2019 NJCAA Division II World Series Preview
The 2019 NJCAA Division II World Series kicks off on Saturday, May 25. The ten teams in the double-elimination tournament earned bids by winning their respective district championship. The tournament will be held at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma.
The National Championship will be played on either Friday, May 31 or Saturday June 1, depending on the number of losses each of the two teams has.
The Pasco-Hernando State (Flor.) vs. Lackawanna (Penn.) game will be a part of the opening round of the tournament with the winner facing off against Pearl River (Miss.) in the first round. Similarly, the winner of the Northeast (N.H.) vs. Monroe (N.Y.) game will have to play Madison (Wis.) in the first round.
Louisiana State-Eunice has won six of the past 13 tournaments, but failed to even earn a spot in this year’s field.
Pearl River (Miss.) has won 18 of its last 22 games dating back to the middle of April, including an impressive 11-2 victory over defending champion Louisiana State-Eunice recently. The Wildcats have currently hit the second most home runs in Division II with 87 this year.
Madison (Wis.) is looking to continue the dominant pitching it has displayed all season heading into the tournament. Madison (Wis.) leads Division II with batting average against of just .216 and is tied for the eighth best ERA at 3.59.
Northern Oklahoma-Enid should be glad to be hosting the tournament as it went 28-11 at home this year compared to 7-5 on the road.
Mesa (Ariz.) is the team from this year’s field with the most recent National Championship, accomplishing the feat in 2014.
