  An East Carolina commit, Benton started gathering helium last October in a strong showing in Jupiter, Fla., in which he touched 93 mph after pitching mostly in the mid- to upper-80s. He's touched a tick or two higher this spring after packing on some weight to his lanky 6-foot-4 frame--although there's still room to add more. He came out this spring overthrowing; his fastball works better in the 89-92 mph range for the time being. Benton throws a curveball that flashes above-average but is inconsistent. He has better feel for his changeup, which has sink and arm-side run. Despite his athleticism and body, Benton throws with too much effort in his delivery, something that will need to be retooled. He's raw, but a team could take a flier on his arm strength.
