Thursday’s Stars

Lourdes Gurriel Jr., SS, Blue Jays. Gurriel went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored yesterday. All in all, it’s been a solid rookie year for the 24-year-old. He’s hit for some power, he’s posted a .284/.317/.436 slash line that encompasses both his strengths (solid hand-eye coordination) and his weaknesses (over-aggressiveness). He’s also showed some versatility as he’s played both second base and shortstop.

Nick Pratto, 1B, Royals. Pratto went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks yesterday to help lead Lexington to a Game 3 win in the South Atlantic League championship series. The Legends now lead Lakewood 2-1 in the best-of-5 series. Pratto is hitting .412/.565/.824 in the playoffs coming off of a .358/.430/.575 August and a brief .429/.429/1.071 three-game September stint. He’s done a very good job of showing he’s pushed beyond a very mediocre first half of his first season. By the end of the year, he looked like one of the best hitters in the South Atlantic League.

Chih-Wei Hu, RHP, Rays. Hu hasn’t had a great season. He’s yo-yo’d between Durham and Tampa and posted poor ERAs (5.40 with the Rays and 4.93 with Durham). But yesterday, Hu’s best start of the season puts Durham one win away from its second consecutive International League title. Hu held Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scoreless for six innings as he allowed six hits and no walks while striking out six.

Tomas Nido, C, Mets. Nido hit his first big league home run yesterday, The Mets catcher has had a rough adjustment to the big leagues. He’s hitting .188/.219/.275 in 73 plate appearances.

Daniel Lynch, LHP, Royals. Lynch allowed two unearned runs in four innings to help Lexington to its Game 3 win.
