Midwest League Announces 2018 All-Star Rosters
This year’s Midwest League all-star game, to be held June 19 in Lansing, Mich., will be fueled by a trio of top Twins prospects that includes shortstop Royce Lewis, the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft.
Lewis, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Tuesday with a grand slam, is hitting .294/.343/.422 with four homers and 31 RBIs. He pulled off a rare trick last year by reaching low Class A in the same year he was drafted out of high school.
He’ll be joined in Lansing by outfielder Alex Kirilloff and electric righthander Brusdar Graterol. Kirilloff, who missed all of 2017 with Tommy John surgery, returned this year ready to make up for lost time. His .602 slugging percentage and 11 home runs are the best in the Midwest League.
Graterol popped up on the scene last year with a tremendous showing at Rookie-level Elizabethton, fueled by a fastball that regularly touched triple-digits. He’s whiffed 36 in 25.1 innings this year and is holding the opposition to a .183 average.
Blue Jays shortstop Kevin Vicuna will represent for the home squad. He’s hitting .292/.329/.388 this year with four triples, one home run and 25 RBIs.
Cardinals rising prospect Elehuris Montero, who was highlighted in an edition of Hot Sheet, also gets a nod. His hitability and power have begun to shine through this year with a .311 average and six home runs.
Bowling Green sends a pair of intriguing teammates in second baseman Vidal Brujan, who boasts a .389 on-base percentage, and catcher Ronaldo Hernandez, who has smacked six home runs for the Hot Rods.
Fans of stellar infield defense should pay attention to West Michigan shortstop Cole Peterson, who is easily one of the most talented defenders in the minor leagues.
