Adidas Signs Yankees’ Aaron Judge, Will Wear Icon 4 Cleats
The 2017 American League Rookie of the Year is now with Adidas.
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees has signed a multiyear agreement with the German-based footwear and apparel outfitter and will make his 2018 on-field debut in the new Adidas Icon cleat.
Judge launched more rookie-season home runs than any other player in MLB history, 52, on his way to earning the top American League rookie honors. Judge joins Chicago’s Kris Bryant and Houston’s Carlos Correa as trophy-winning representatives of Adidas baseball.
The new partnership will feature Judge in Adidas marketing campaigns—Adidas partnered with the Costacos brothers to recreate classic ‘90s sports posters featuring Judge that will get displayed in the Bronx and throughout New York City—and have him collaborating on the design of future footwear, training apparel and equipment.
Judge is expected to wear Adidas cleats and batting gloves in games.
“Adidas has a ton of momentum and everything the brand is doing right now stands out from the rest and challenges the status quo,” Judge said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more excited to be joining the Adidas family. I’ve been a fan of Adidas for a long time and from the beginning of our conversations, this just felt right to me. I never dreamed of an opportunity like this and I can’t wait to see what we create together.”
Mark King, president of Adidas North America, said in a statement that Judge brings excitement, talent, passion and a work ethic to the sport. “It’s clear he’s setting himself up for an extraordinary future,” King said.
Adidas is selling pre-orders of new Judge T-shirts playing off the Judge last name and offering up gold-accented Icon 4 cleats.
