Mahomes Says He’ll Concentrate On Football
Texas Tech quarterback Pat Mahomes Jr., who ranked in the BA 500 in 2014 and is the son of the former major league pitcher, says he’ll concentrate on football and will not play baseball.
Mahomes became a star on the gridiron in 2015, throwing for 4,653 yards and 36 TDs. Mahomes, drafted in the 32nd round by the Tigers in 2014, played three games for the Texas Tech baseball team as a freshman.
As a baseball player, Mahomes showed a low-90s fastball on the mound while also showcasing excellent arm strength when he played right field. Some evaluators liked him better as a hitter who is an average runner with plus raw power from a raw offensive approach, but scouts said he preferred football and that has proven true.
