Western Kentucky Coach Arrested On DUI Charge

Western Kentucky coach John Pawlowski was arrested Friday for allegedly driving under the influence. He was released Saturday morning on a $500 bond.

Brian Lowder, Pawlowski’s lawyer, told ABC affiliate WBKO in Bowling Green that Pawlowski submitted to a breathalyzer test and registered a .021 blood alcohol content, well below Kentucky’s legal limit of .08.

“We are in the process of gathering the facts,” Lowder told WBKO. “But it does not appear that Coach Pawlowski has committed any crime.

“He has been accused of DUI despite voluntarily submitting a breath sample which yielded a .021 result. It is a puzzling situation to say the least. We expect a prompt resolution.”

Western Kentucky associate athletic director Michael Schroeder said the university is still in the process of gathering more information.

Pawlowski was hired by the Hilltoppers last June, replacing Matt Myers who was fired after four seasons. Pawlowski spent the last two years as associate head coach at San Diego State, and previously was head coach at the College of Charleston and Auburn.
