Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted Age At Draft: 22 Sharkey has been a full-time reliever for Coastal Carolina in his three-year career, and after a great 2021 freshman season and a poor 2022 season where his strikeout rate backed up, he was back to excellent in 2023. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound righthander posted a 2.90 ERA through 27 appearances and 49.2 innings, with a 35.7% strikeout rate and 8.7% walk rate. He attacks hitters from a three-quarter arm slot after a rockback that features a bit of tilt and drop-and-drive action in his delivery. His fastball sits 94-95 mph and has been up to 98, with plus vertical carry and around 19 inches of induced vertical break. He throws the pitch for strikes reasonably well, and backs up the heater with a mid-80s short-breaking slider and a downer curveball around 80 mph. Both pitches have good spin rates in the 2,500-2,800 rpm range and offer distinct shapes and looks to hitters. His three-pitch mix and improved control this spring could lead teams to try him as a starter in pro ball, but given his collegiate usage, he’s more than likely a reliever at the next level as well.
