College Top 25 (April 25)

After a series win against rival Georgia, Florida returns to the top spot of the Baseball America Top 25, powered by Louisville Slugger.

Florida has topped the rankings eight times this season, including the Preseason Top 25. It climbs back to No. 1 after going 3-1 last week, while Miami was upended by Virginia. Texas A&M and Mississippi State rise to Nos. 2 and 3, and Miami falls to No. 4. Florida State rounds out the top five.

Six new teams enter the Top 25 this week. Southern Mississippi leads the newcomers, returning to the rankings at No. 14 after defeating Rice to take sole possession of first place in Conference USA. It is the Golden Eagles’ highest ranking since they were No. 12 in the May 9, 2011, Top 25.

Tulane (20), East Carolina (21), Virginia (22) and Oklahoma State (25) also return to the rankings. Minnesota rounds out the newcomers, entering the rankings at No. 24. It is the Golden Gophers’ first week in the Top 25 since finishing the 2009 season at No. 21.

Falling out of the Top 25 are North Carolina, Long Beach State, Kentucky, California, Florida Atlantic and Michigan State. All had losing weekends.

The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with seven representatives, including six in the top 10. The Atlantic Coast Conference has five teams in the rankings.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through April 24 and do not include ties.
