Army Announces Coaching Change

Army announced Monday that it has let go coach Matt Reid, beginning a search for a new head coach.

The Black Knights went 16-32 this season and finished last in the Patriot League. It was Army’s lowest win total since it went 15-28 in 1999.

Reid was Army’s head coach for three seasons, and went 70-77. The Black Knights went 33-18 and finished in first place in the Patriot League in 2014, his first season, but saw their record regress in each of the next two years. They went 21-26 in 2015.

In the 10 years before Reid became head coach, Army finished first or second in the Patriot League eight times and made the NCAA tournament five times, including back-to-back trips in 2012-13.

Reid, 37, spent six seasons as an assistant coach before being promoted in 2013 to replace Joe Sottolano, who was fired for failing to meet the academy’s standards of behavior. Reid joined Army after two seasons as an assistant at UNC Asheville and one at Old Dominion.
