Stokes emerged this spring as one of the top risers in Southern California. A talented basketball player who played center for his high school team, Stokes has an athletic, projectable 6-foot-5, 210-pound frame he is still growing into. His fastball sits 90-92 and touches 95 mph with little effort and has a chance to reach triple-digits as he fills out. He complements his fastball with a potentially above-average 81-85 mph slider that flashes late bite, although it is inconsistent. His below-average changeup is a distant third pitch he rarely uses. Stokes is a flexible athlete with plenty of arm speed and an easy arm action, but he’s still raw as a pitcher. He is prone to getting offline in his delivery and tends to unravel when things go poorly. His control is below-average and he will throw balls off the backstop on occasion. Stokes is a raw ball of clay whose arm strength, size and delivery give him plenty of upside, especially as he focuses solely on baseball. He is committed to Oregon.
