DeLoach Stands Out At Rangers’ Area Code Tryout

The Rangers got the wheels in motion on the 2016 Area Code Baseball Tryout circuit last week by hosting the first of three tryouts that will take place in the Lone Star State. Weatherford College provided a great backdrop for the 98 ballplayers that came out to be seen by the 140 or so college and pro scouts in attendance.

The Rangers’ 2015 Area Code squad represented the state extremely well in the games this past August and that talent made an impact on the 2016 MLB Draft with three players taken in the first two rounds: Forrest Whitley, a righthander from Alamo Heights in San Antonio, went No. 17 overall to the Astros; Hudson Sanchez, a shortstop from Carroll Senior High, Southlake, Texas, was the No. 24 pick to the Padres, and Kyle Muller, a lefthander from Jesuit Prep in Dallas, was the 44th overall pick by the Braves.

“There were a lot of good college-type kids at our tryout today,” one Rangers scout said. “We’re hoping to find a few more MLB projection-type kids at the tryouts to come.”

Standouts at the tryout included: two-way player Zachary DeLoach, a lefthander and outfielder at Hebron High in Lewisville, Texas; Ryan Vilade, a righthander and third baseman from Frisco (Texas) High, and outfielder Kamron Fields of Lakeview Central High in Garland, Texas.
