Division II Lynn University catcher John Silviano set a Sunshine State Conference record with 31 home runs this season, and the 21-year-old is the third player in D-II history to hit 30 in a season. Silviano has previous professional experience—he played in the Blue Jays system from 2012 to 2014 as a Toronto 13th-round pick out of high school—but he qualified to play collegiately at Lynn because of a D-II provision known as amateur deregulation, which allows players to turn pro without forfeiting college eligibility.

Cardinals correspondent Derrick Goold reports that 2015 first-round outfielder Nick Plummer required surgery to repair the fibrocartilage complex in his wrist. He will miss the entire season and is expected back for instructional league.
