LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Yankees, behind lefthander John Kodris, beat the Athletics 3-1 in the final game of Sunday’s Area Code Games session.
Kodros (Coppell (Texas) High) pitched four innings for the Yankees, giving up one run. The four innings was the longest outing of any pitcher so far at the Area Code Games. Kodros said he approached the game as if he were starting a game in high school.
BA’s Hudson Belinsky described Kodros’ pitching motion as deceptive with a lot of movement on his fastball, along with a frisbee slider.
Shane Muntz (Malvern (Pa.) Prep) ran into trouble in the sixth inning with runners on second and third base before striking out the next three batters. Muntz said he used his fastball to get out of the jam while keeping batters off balance with his slider.
Adam Hall (A.B. Lucas Secondary, London, Ontario) continued a strong performance and opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first.
Griff McGarry (Menlo School, Atherton, Calif.) pitched two scoreless innings for the A’s.
