College Baseball Rankings Top 25 For May 1
Oregon State won its ninth straight Pac-12 Conference series, a streak that dates back to last year, and retained its top spot in the Baseball America Top 25, powered by Louisville Slugger.
Oregon State lost its first home game of the season Saturday, but bounced back for a 10-1 victory Sunday in the rubber game against Southern California. The Beavers are now 15-1 this spring at Goss Stadium.
Louisville and North Carolina again follow Oregon State this week, with Auburn and Texas Tech rounding out the top five. Auburn, which is tied for first place in the Southeastern Conference, earned its highest ranking since April 12, 1999, when it was No. 4.
Three new teams join the Top 25 this week. Southern Mississippi leads the newcomers at No. 20, followed by South Florida at No. 24 and Texas at No. 25. Southern Miss returns to the Top 25 after a week’s absence. It is the first time in the Top 25 for both South Florida and Texas since their coaching changes. The Bulls, led by third-year coach Mark Kingston, are ranked for the first time since May 6, 2013, while the Longhorns, under first-year coach David Pierce, are ranked for the first time since March 23, 2015.
Falling out of the Top 25 this week are Houston, Mercer and West Virginia. All three lost weekend series.
The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with seven teams in the rankings. The Atlantic Coast Conference follows with five representatives.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through April 30 and do not include ties.
