Track Record: Heredia is a pop-up prospect from the Phillies’ 2021 international signing class. He put together a solid 2022 season in the Dominican Summer League, including a white-hot postseason run. He was one of the best prospects in the Florida Complex League in 2023, then finished the year with Low-A Clearwater. His .947 OPS was the third-best in the FCL.
Scouting Report: Heredia is one of the more tooled-up players in Philadelphia’s low minors. He grades as average to plus in every area except hitting, where he’s not likely to be better than below-average. Scouts both inside and outside the organization believe Heredia will need to improve his bat-to-ball skills, and his rates of miss and chase were below-average across the board. In particular, he needs to firm up his approach with two strikes. When he did connect, Heredia showed excellent bat speed and did a good job of finding the barrel. His 102.5 mph 90th percentile exit velocity was above-average when compared to his peers in the FCL. Heredia’s above-average speed and plus arm should allow him to profile in right field, where he should be an average defender.
The Future: Heredia has a blend of tools that could lead to a future as a power-hitting corner outfielder who hits toward the bottom of a lineup. He’ll face a big test in 2024 when he spends his first year solely at full-season levels.
