It would be difficult to find many pitchers in the prep class with more electric pure stuff than Meyer. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound righthander showed just how explosive his pitch mix is at East Coast Pro during the middle of the 2022 summer, when he threw a 92-96 mph fastball and touched 97 multiple times, and then broke out a devastating, 78-83 mph slider with tons of horizontal movement and spin rates in the 3,000-3,200 rpm range. On top of a plus fastball and a slider that’s received 70-grade evaluations, Meyer also broke out a low-80s changeup that showed decent fade and tumble for good measure. While his pure stuff makes him sound like a first round talent, what has held Meyer back is his ability to control and command his pitch mix. He has a long track record of being a poor strike-thrower and he was erratic once again during the 2022 summer, with very little feel to land any of his pitches in the zone consistently. He pitches with a half windup or from the stretch only, with plenty of arm speed, but a lengthy, extended arm action in the back of his stroke that remains difficult for him to consistently sync up. Meyer pitched in the high school game at the 2023 draft combine and racked up whiffs with both his fastball and breaking ball, but continued to show erratic control. Meyer is a high-risk, high-reward profile who could excel with an organization that has a strong track record harnessing command. He is committed to West Virginia.
