Fred Ferreira. The Orioles signed Leyva in September 2014 for $725,000, which was in line with bonuses given to Cuban outfielders Henry Urrutia and Dariel Alvarez. Leyva was in extended spring training to begin 2015 and then reported to short-season Aberdeen. He worked to a 1.96 ERA in eight games in relief and went 0-3, 3.68 over seven starts. Leyva remains a raw pitcher with a plus fastball with below-average control and command. His fastball sits between 93-96 mph. He also throws a slider and changeup, with the slider well ahead of the change. Leyva showed a pretty smooth, repeatable delivery with easy arm action and easy, plus arm strength. Some scouts question Leyva's attitude and work ethic as well as maturity issues. He will likely begin 2016 in the bullpen at low Class A Delmarva.
