School: Arizona State
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.8
BA Grade: 40/High
Tools: Hit: 50. Power: 30. Run: 40. Field: 50. Arm: 45.
Campos is a smaller catcher with a 5-foot-9, 180-pound frame but excellent zone control and bat-to-ball skills that make his profile similar to 2023 Maryland sixth-rounder Luke Shliger. In three years with Arizona State, Campos has hit .367/.463/.552 with 21 home runs, a 9.8% strikeout rate and a 13.9% walk rate. What he lacks in power he makes up for with a standout offensive approach that takes advantage of his shorter stature. Campos doesn’t often expand the zone and is happy to take his walks when he gets them, and when pitchers do come in the zone and Campos decides to swing, he doesn’t miss. His in-zone contact rate for his career is an impressive 91% and he employs a compact and direct lefthanded swing that allows him to slap the ball on a line to all fields. He’s unlikely to ever hit more than 10 homers in a full pro season despite improvement in his home run production year-over-year in college, and he also had two underwhelming summers in the Cape Cod League with Wareham. Campos moves well behind the plate and has a chance for solid receiving skills. He gets rid of the ball quickly on his throws which might help compensate for below-average pure arm strength.
