Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.6
Langenberg transitioned to the Iowa starting rotation after serving as a reliever a year ago, and he posted a 3.71 ERA over 63 innings. The lanky, 6-foot-2, 190-pound righthander had a successful summer for Hyannis in the Cape Cod League in 2022 and put himself in the discussion as an early-round pick for this year’s draft. He had an up-and down spring, posting a 6-3, 4.15 mark. In 17 appearances, 15 starts, Langenberg logged 78 innings while punching out 86, walking 34 and allowing a .276 opponent average. The junior hurler has some deception to his low-90s fastball due to his lower arm slot that can create running action when timed up. Langenberg likes to throw his sharp breaking, low-80s slider to both lefthanded and righthanded hitters and it serves as his putaway pitch. It will flash plus at times, but consistency is needed with it. He has feel for his firm mid-80s changeup that features similar movement as his fastball, which makes it an effective pitch. Though he has fair to average control, Langenberg will have to develop his command as there were times this spring where he lacked consistency, leaving pitches over the plate. Evaluators agree Langenberg is still coming into his own and he possesses traits that cannot be taught. With added size and strength, it is easy to envision his fastball taking another leap in velocity, which should also add effectiveness to his slider. Whether in a starting role or out of the bullpen, Langenberg is an intriguing player with upside.
