Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 24
Wegner is one of the older players in the 2023 draft class, and will turn 24 shortly after the draft, but he’s also hit the ball exceptionally hard this season with Arkansas and could be a priority senior sign candidate because of that. The 6-foot, 220-pound outfielder spent four seasons with Creighton where he was a consistent righthanded bat, but as a grad student with Arkansas he has seen his power production jump. In 42 games he hit .313/.457/.673 with a career-best 15 home runs, with a 22.3% strikeout rate and 17.6% walk rate. His exit velocities rank near the top of the country, with a 93 mph average and 110 mph 90th percentile mark, and that power has shown up to all fields in games. Wegner is a limited defender and a well below-average runner who will need to hit to profile. His advanced age could eliminate him entirely from many draft boards, but for those who believe his 2023 power is more than just playing against younger competition he could be an intriguing option late on day two.
