School: Lakeland (Fla.) HS Committed/Drafted: Houston
Age At Draft: 18.1
A 5-foot-10, 185-pound catcher committed to Houston, Hernandez was a strong performer during Perfect Game’s World Wood Bat Championship in Jupiter, Fla. last fall. He went 8-for-13 (.615) at the event, though scouts view him as more of a catch-and-throw backstop currently. He has a good arm that should be above-average in the future and shows the defensive instincts and receiving ability to be average or better as a defender. Despite his strong performance at a big event during the fall, evaluators don’t think his bat is quite ready for the pro game and could use more refinement in college. Hernandez is young for the class and like most catchers, is a below-average runner.
