Fitzpatrick was a reliever with a 6.11 ERA in 2021 who moved to the rotation for Rutgers in 2022, making six starts with a 3.91 ERA, 28 strikeouts and nine walks in 23 innings. What helped his stock was going to the Cape Cod League this summer and posting 19 scoreless innings with a 19-2 K-BB mark. Fitzpatrick, 22, is a towering 6-foot-7, 230 pounds who drops down to a low three-quarters slot, pitching off a fastball that’s mostly 88-91 mph and hits 93. His slider is inconsistent, but when it’s on, it has long break across the zone and missed bats against good lefthanded hitters on the Cape. Fitzpatrick’s long fingers help him manipulate his changeup, which can be a bat-missing pitch against righties with late tumble.
