Age At Draft: 21.4
Dietz did not make his college debut until late March since he was out with an injury, so not a whole lot has changed. The imposing lefthander has a loose, clean arm action and attacks from a high–three quarter slot. He has good direction and works well down the mound. Dietz features a fastball, slider and changeup with his low-80s slider being the best of the three with plus potential. The slider is most effective against lefthanded hitters with two-plane break and ample horizontal movement. Dietz’s above-average pitchability also enables him to land the pitch for strikes against righthanded hitters, though at times it takes on a bit of a loopier look. He will be handled with caution for the rest of this season, but expect Dietz to have a prominent role on the Razorbacks’ pitching staff both next year and beyond. -

Dietz is part of a loaded Calvary Christian pitching staff that also includes righthanders Liam Peterson and Landen Maroudis, two other top pitchers in the 2023 class. Listed at 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, Dietz has a massive frame and a smooth and easy operation on the mound, with good body control, a loose arm and a three-quarter slot. Dietz mostly pitches in the 89-92 mph range and will touch 94, but he has sneaky life on the fastball and generates tons of whiffs with the pitch. His breaking ball is a slider that’s in the 79-83 mph range and flashes impressive late bite and tilt at times, and generates swings and misses versus both lefties and righties. The pitch will blend into more of a curveball shape at lower velocity ranges and get more loopy with 1-to-7 shape. He’ll occasionally mix in a low-80s changeup, but his feel for the pitch needs work and he has a tendency to leave it up and over the plate, where it’s hittable. He is committed to Arkansas.
