Lewis started his career at Mississippi State before heading to Chipola (Fla.) JC, where he hit .312 with 15 home runs. He continued to show impressive in-game power in 2023 with Troy and finished as one of the nation’s top home run hitters with 27, good for fourth in the country, and slashed .286/.436/.705 with a 29.3% strikeout rate and 16.1% walk rate. Lewis has effortless power from both sides of the plate, and was a solid performer as both a lefty and righty hitter. Of the national home run leaders, Troy’s average stands out for being quite low and speaks to the amount of swing-and-miss in his game, as does his strikeout rate and overall contact rate of just 63%, which is a well below-average number—especially for a corner profile. Troy has played both right and left field but most of his playing time came in left field this spring. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound outfielder is a fine runner in a corner and is capable of making a highlight-reel diving catch, but his routes, closing speed and instincts could be improved. -
School: Chipola (Fla.) JC Committed/Drafted: Troy
Age At Draft: 20.7
Lewis was scouted heavily this spring thanks in part to teaming up with likely first round pick Cam Collier at Chipola (Fla.) JC, but it was Lewis who led the team in home runs. A 6-foot-1, 190-pound switch-hitting outfielder, Lewis slashed .312/.404/.630 with 15 home runs and 13 doubles in 56 games—though that power did come with 68 strikeouts to just 23 walks. Scouts like his power potential from both sides of the plate, but he tends to swing freely with no discernible approach at the plate and whiffs against both fastballs and breaking balls. Lewis is a left fielder and will likely stick in a corner at the next level (with first base a possibility as well) and could up his draft stock at Troy next season if a team doesn’t take a shot on his both-sides power in 2022.
