Macias is a versatile and athletic infielder with impressive feel for the barrel from both sides of the plate. Listed at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, Macias is more of a gap-to-gap, line drive hitter presently, but he turned heads this spring at USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational, where he hit .500 (5-for-10) and found barrel after barrel after barrel. Macias has shown impressive rhythm and timing in the box, with an ability to make adjustments in the box, though his lefthanded swing is better than his righty swing. Some scouts think he would be better served focusing on his lefty swing only at the next level, but he has a tremendous work ethic and might be able to refine his righty swing with more time. He has fringe-average raw power that could get to average with more physical development. He’s an above-average runner who shows aggressive tendencies on the base paths. With that speed, Macias might be able to handle an outfield position if his fringe-average arm strength means he must move off shortstop. Macias is committed to Oregon State but is viewed as a solid top-10 round talent.
