School: Vanderbilt
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age at Draft: 21.0
Dutkanych ranked as the No. 35 prospect in the 2022 draft class out of high school before he withdrew from the class in order to attend Vanderbilt. At times scouts saw the righthander flash multiple 70-grade pitches with his fastball and slider, but he also battled inconsistencies from outing to outing. “The Duke” pitched in just four games in 2023 and struggled with control—nine walks in 6.1 innings—before a hamstring injury ended his season. He has a four-pitch mix including a 92-94 mph fastball, a mid-80s slider, a slower curveball in the mid 70s and a low-80s changeup, as well as an impressive pitcher’s physique at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, but will need to bolster his draft stock with innings, health and command during the 2024 season.

Dutkanych ranked as the No. 35 prospect in the 2022 draft class out of high school before he withdrew from the class in order to attend Vanderbilt. He flashed multiple 70-grade pitches as a high schooler but also struggled with control from outing to outing. “The Duke” hasn’t yet reclaimed that sort of draft status in his two years at Vanderbilt, as he’s dealt with injury that has limited his time on the mound. He’s thrown only 17 innings—mostly as a reliever—in his two seasons with the program though the 6-foot-3, 230-pound righty continues to flash big-time stuff. This spring he averaged 94 mph with his fastball and touched 97 with quality riding life and cutting action that misses bats at an impressive rate. He also still throws a high-spin slider and curveball, the former in the mid 80s and the latter around 80 mph. Dutkanych breaks out a mid-80s changeup as well but has less feel for that pitch than his other three. Health, track record and command remain questions, but Dutkanych still has plenty of arm talent to dream on.
