Richardson graduated high school early to enroll with Baylor for the 2020 season, but that backfired a bit thanks to the coronavirus-shortened season. In each full season with the Bears, however, Richardson has proven to be a reliable middle infielder who succeeds more with impressive skills and baseball IQ than any standout tools. This spring he slashed .297/.398/.434 and hit four home runs and 15 doubles while primarily handling the team’s second base job. He can slide over to shortstop in a pinch, but scouts view his arm as a much better fit for the right side of the infield. He has quick hands and bat speed—enough to handle velocity—and doesn’t swing at breaking stuff much unless he needs to when behind in the count. His game would improve with more strength, but at 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, there’s limited physical projection with Richardson. He’s a solid defender who plays the game hard, and should get an opportunity to do so in pro ball despite mostly having fringe-average tools across the board.
