A draft-eligible sophomore, Murillo shows excellent feel and understanding of what he needs to do at every moment at shortstop. But while that impresses scouts, there are significant worries that his bat won’t be enough as a pro. Murillo has bottom-of-the-scale raw power. His best hope is to hit the ball in front of the outfielders, because he very rarely shows the pop to drive it over their heads. He finished the year with an impressive .402 on-base percentage thanks to the ability to draw walks, but he also posted an .037 isolated power, as he slugged only .339 despite a .292 batting average. There are worries that pro pitchers will knock the bat out of his hands. Murillo makes all the plays on balls he gets to at shortstop and he has an average arm, but he’s a below-average runner and has limited range. He profiles as a backup middle infielder who can play second base well and shortstop adequately.
