Age At Draft: 21.4
BA Grade:45/Extreme
Tools:Fastball: 55. Slider: 60. Changeup: 45. Control: 40.
Dunn pitched well in limited action during his freshman 2021 season, when he posted a 2.13 ERA over 12.2 innings that mostly came out of the bullpen. Dunn stepped into a starting role for Florida State in 2022 and posted a 4.88 ERA over 11 starts and 48 innings, with 77 strikeouts and 26 walks. Following the season, Dunn showed electric stuff with Team USA and also announced his transfer to Arizona State for 2023, but dealt with an injury during the fall. Dunn posted a 4.27 ERA over 15 starts and 65.1 innings, with a 26.3% strikeout rate and a 14.4% walk rate. Listed at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Dunn is solidly built and throws from a three-quarter slot with a hooking action in the back of his arm stroke. His fastball velocity was a bit down this spring, sitting 90-93 mph and touching 94, though he has sat a few ticks higher and gotten to 96-97 in the past, with plus riding life. He also lost a bit of power on a slider that has looked like a plus pitch in the past, though even in the low 80s this spring he generated a 67% miss rate on the pitch. He’s also flashed a solid mid-80s changeup. Dunn has a great frame and solid stuff from the left side, but he has consistently been a below-average strike-thrower and is a likely reliever because of it.
