California Baptist has had a string of promising pitchers, so scouts have gotten plenty of chances to see Martin behind the plate. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound catcher led the Western Athletic Conference in on-base percentage (.483) this spring and finished in the top 10 in batting average (.375), runs (51) and walks (31). Martin isn't doesn't have big tools, but he can stick behind the plate and he's a lefthanded hitter who performed well. Those two traits give him a chance to be taken on the draft's third day.
