A large and physical, 6-foot-6, 240-pound righthander, Sheppard had a loud fall during his senior season in high school but backed up during the spring and made it to campus at High Point. He mostly pitched out of the bullpen during his first two seasons but transitioned to a starting role in 2022 and posted a 4.66 ERA over 14 starts and 77.1 innings, with 62 strikeouts (18.6 K%) and 31 walks (9.3 BB%). Sheppard has arm strength and was up to 95 mph this spring and 97 mph last fall, with solid riding life on his fastball. He has generated lots of whiffs with a low-spin, low-80s slider and a low-80s changeup. Sheppard has violence, head whack and spin off in his delivery and could be best served to return to the bullpen in pro ball, where his stuff should tick up.
