Cobb was a part-time player for three seasons with Stanford before finally getting an everyday opportunity as a senior in 2023. The 6-foot-3, 197-pound shortstop hit .324/.368/.471 with six home runs, a 15.3% strikeout rate and a 5.5% walk rate. He’s an unorthodox hitter who has an upright stance and doesn’t use his legs much at all in his swing. That has led to extremely modest power numbers and exit velocities. He does have fast hands and makes a solid amount of contact, but he’s often hooking around the baseball instead of driving through it. While he made contact at an 80% clip this spring, Cobb expands the zone too much and will need a few key mechanical and approach adjustments in pro ball to avoid being overmatched. While his offensive profile is questionable, he’s a strong athlete and a plus runner who provides impressive defense at a number of positions. He was Stanford’s everyday shortstop this spring and made a number of challenging plays with above-average arm strength, but he’s played all over the diamond and scouts think he is fast enough to handle center field as well. Cobb’s baserunning instincts need to catch up to his pure speed. His utility profile could make him a day three target.
