View Draft Report
Gavello entered the season considered one of the best mid-major hitters in the draft class and a potential riser, but he changed his swing to try to hit for more power and struggled mightily. He hit just .247/.393/.495 for Pacific and saw his strikeout rate increase seven percent from the previous year. At his best, Gavello has a confident presence in the batter's box and an advanced approach. He hits both lefties and righties, consistently squares up balls up and hits them hard in the air. Gavello changed his swing to be more uphill this spring and got overly steep, leading to a sharp increase in his swings and misses. He has a chance to hit for average and power if he returns to his previous swing. Gavello isn't overly athletic or toolsy and is reliant on his bat to provide value. He has played around the infield and his best position is second base, where he is a fringy defender.

Gavello came into the season as a potential day two pick thanks to his track record of solid performance. He hit .335/.458/.601 as a sophomore in 2021, showing the ability to hit for average and power. It’s harder to make that draft case now after he hit .247/.393/.495 as a junior. Gavello does have fringe-average power, the ability to get on base and some defensive versatility, although he’s stretched at shortstop and is fringy at second (his primary position this year) and third.
