Drafted in the 10th round (299th overall) by the Minnesota Twins in 2019 (signed for $10,000).
View Draft Report
The Astros drafted Gross after his senior season at Princeton, where he posted a 4.47 ERA over nine starts with an exceptionally low walk rate (1.20 per nine), but Gross instead transferred to Duke as a grad student and started in the bullpen before working his way into a starting role for the Blue Devils. Gross doesn't have overwhelming stuff and pitches in the upper-80s and low-90s, with his stuff getting into the 92-94 mph range at its best in shorter stints. He also has a fringey, upper-70s curveball but repeats his delivery well and consistently locates his pitches.
