View Draft Report
A 19th-round pick of the Padres out of high school, Villers spent three seasons as one of Cal’s top relievers and logged a 2.84 ERA in a team-high 29 appearances this spring. The 6-foot-6, 245-pound righthander ranges from 91-96 mph on his fastball and gets swings and misses with an average slider. Villers has the ability to ramp up to 96-97 mph, but he generally pitches in the low 90s to gain better control of his fastball. He also has a fringy changeup and curveball that aren’t big parts of his arsenal. Villers’ size and arm strength appeal to teams at the back of the top 10 rounds. If he can start sitting in the upper 90s, he has a chance to be a leveraged reliever.
