Peete is a talented infielder and pitcher, though it’s his potential as a position player that’s particularly appealing to many scouts and he didn’t pitch at all during the spring with an elbow injury. One of the youngest players in the 2023 class, Peete is a loose, springy athlete with more space to fill out his lean, 6-foot-3 frame. He’s an aggressive hitter who will have to tighten his strike-zone discipline, but his hands work inside the ball in an extremely short lefthanded swing with over-the-fence power that should continue to rise as he gets stronger. A shortstop now, he likely moves to third base or the outfield in the future. His athleticism and plus arm from the left side of the infield are evident on the mound. During the 2022 summer, his fastball sat 88-93 mph and has reached 94 mph from a three-quarter slot, with the arm speed and physical projection for more velocity to come. He needs to tighten his control, but he has shown promising signs there, with good mechanics and the athleticism that should help him repeat his delivery. Peete’s best pitch is his changeup, a potential plus pitch that looks like a fastball out of his hand before diving at the plate with late tumble and fade, missing bats against lefties and righties. Peete also mixes in an upper-80s two-seamer and a mid-to-upper-70s curveball, but he leans heavily on his fastball/changeup attack. Track Record: A two-way player in high school, Peete touched 95 mph as a pitcher, but suffered an elbow injury that kept him off the mound his senior year. He blossomed as a position player with his focus exclusively on hitting, leading the Mariners to draft him 30th overall and sign him for $2.5 million to forgo a Georgia Tech commitment. Peete hit his way out of the Arizona Complex League and authored a signature performance when he hit grand slams in consecutive innings for Low-A Modesto on Aug. 27. He became a staple of the Nuts lineup and helped them win the California League championship.

Scouting Report: Peete is a loose, springy athlete, who is still growing as a baseball player. He has fast hands and flashes a short, quick lefthanded swing, but other times his swing gets too big. He constantly tinkers and is an aggressive swinger who has to tighten his strike zone discipline to be even a below-average hitter. His natural strength and leverage give him above-average raw power when he connects. Peete is a plus runner with the athleticism to play multiple positions, but he needs polish. He sits back on his heels in the infield and his footwork is poor on routine ground balls. He is better at making plays on the move and will likely end up in the outfield, where he can roam with his athleticism and long strides.

The Future: Peete will take time to develop. He has the potential to be a dynamic power-speed outfielder if everything clicks.
