Chandler Simpson’s Speed Never Slumps | Double-A Best Tools
Chandler Simpson was one of the most polarizing prospects in the 2022 draft, when he was taken 70th overall out of Georgia Tech.
And he still remains one of the most fascinating prospects today.
Simpson has legitimate top-of-the scale speed that will absolutely play in MLB. He combines it with excellent baserunning and basestealing instincts. He has 184 career stolen bases at an 87% success rate.
Simpson is more than just a stolen base specialist. While his power is basically nonexistent, he has incredible bat control and has more career walks than strikeouts.
He knows his game and looks to put the ball in play and wreak havoc with his speed.
A college middle infielder, Simpson has converted to the outfield, and his defense remains a work in progress. His arm is among the worst in pro ball, while his instincts are still quite poor, as well.
However, 80 speed helps him outrun many of his mistakes.
Simpson’s speed provides a path to MLB value. But can he overcome his weaknesses to play every day?
