Prospect Report: Dodgers DSL Bautista Advances To Finals

0

Kyle Harrison, LHP, Giants: In his second big league start, San Francisco’s top prospect was magnificent. The 22-year-old southpaw struck out 11 in 6.1 shutout innings against a Cincinnati lineup teeming with young talent. He got a dozen whiffs as well. The performance marked Harrison’s first double-digit strikeout game of the season and fell one short of tying his professional career high, which came in Low-A in 2021. Besides his spot as the Giants’ top prospect, Harrison also ranks as the No. 1 lefthanded pitching prospect in the sport.

Angel Diaz, C, Dodgers: The Dodgers Bautista club in the DSL erased a nine-run deficit over the last three innings of its semifinal game on Monday with the Padres Gold club. Diaz, an 18-year-old catcher repeating the DSL, was instrumental in those efforts. Diaz’s two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning pulled his team within one. In the bottom of the 10th inning, his double to center field gave the Dodgers the walk-off win. If that’s not interesting enough, consider this: The home run was Diaz’s third of the postseason, but only second with the Bautista club. He also went deep for Dodgers Mega, which was eliminated in an earlier round of the playoffs.

Luis Gonzalez, RHP, Phillies: The Phillies White team evened its semifinal series with Pirates Gold thanks to a monumental effort from Gonzalez, an 18-year-old righthander from Venezuela. Gonzalez threw eight innings of three-hit shutout ball before handing the ball to Carlos Millan for the final three outs. Gonzalez pitched just one regular-season game for Phillies White (he spent the rest of the season with Phillies Red) but in the postseason turned in a tremendous start to keep a championship ring in sight.

Nolan Schanuel, 1B, Angels: After becoming the first 2023 draftee to reach the big leagues, Schanuel added another milestone to his ledger: his first extra-base hit. The Florida Atlantic alum cranked a cutter from Taijuan Walker into the right-field corner on a line. It left the bat at 101 mph, making it not only the first non-single of his career, but also the first time he’d posted an exit velocity harder than 100 mph since he reached the majors.
