Prospect Report: Yankees’ John Cruz Homers Twice
John Cruz, OF, Yankees: New York’s team in the Florida Complex League is one of the most talent-rich on the circuit. Cruz is its youngest player. On Monday, he slammed two home runs against the Tigers’ affiliate, bringing his total to 10 for the season and vaulting him into second place in the league. It also pushes him past the Padres’ Ethan Salas and the D-backs’ Gian Zapata for the home run lead among players 17 and younger.
Raynier Ramirez, 3B, Dodgers: Ramirez signed with Los Angeles in the most recent international signing period and has had a solid pro debut in the Dominican Summer League. He has nearly as many walks (28) as strikeouts (34), boasts a 90th percentile exit velocity hovering around 99 mph and on Monday went 3-for-5 with a double and his sixth home run of the year.
Sebastian Walcott, SS, Rangers: After first moving from the DSL to the ACL, Walcott started like a house afire. In recent weeks, however, he’s been a bit of a boom-or-bust player. On Tuesday, his output was closer to the dynamic prospect who’s opened eyes of scouts throughout the desert. The 17-year-old Bahamian racked up a double and a triple in his team’s game against the White Sox affiliate, marking his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
