Blanchard has played baseball and football for Jacksonville State for three seasons, but after accounting for more than 2,000 total yards as a sophomore, he lost his quarterback job as a junior, as well as his punting gig. He was always a better prospect on the diamond anyway, and the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder played last summer in the Cape Cod League to demonstrate that to scouts. He showed off above-average athleticism, arm strength and speed. His spring was erratic for the Gamecocks, as he lost his starting shortstop job thanks to more than 20 errors. Blanchard has offensive upside and remains raw, and he could be a tough sign if he wants to give football one more go. His feel for hitting is behind his raw tools, especially if he has to move to the outfield. He's a wild card whose athleticism and tools give him an edge over other college prospects.
