Track Record: One of the most aggressive teams on the international market, the Rangers were in early on Rodriguez and signed him when he became eligible on July 2, 2018. While a lot of teams didn't see much of Rodriguez leading up to July 2, the Rangers jumped on him because of his offensive potential.
Scouting Report: Rodriguez puts himself in a good hitting position with his setup and stance in the box, then releases a smooth, calm swing. It's a compact stroke and he drives the ball to the alleys now with a chance to grow into average power in the future. Rodriguez is an offensive-minded catcher who will need a lot of work to be able to stay behind the plate. His arm is strong enough to catch but his receiving, blocking and throwing are all extremely crude, so there's considerable risk he could end up moving to either left field or first base.
The Future: Rodriguez will in 2019 make his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League.
