While scouts have long had an eye on Ryan Castallini in Arizona, Moran has had more helium this spring. He presents an interesting contrast to Castellani because he has less present stuff but is more projectable, and some scouts like him as the better prospect down the road. His fastball and body are the allure. At 6-foot-6, 170 pounds, Moran is long, loose and lean, giving scouts plenty to dream on. He sits 86-90 mph most often now but has bumped 92-93 mph at times. With physical maturity and strength, Moran could pitch with a plus fastball consistently. His secondary pitches are raw, with a rudimentary changeup and a rolling breaking ball with inconsistent shape. He has flashed enough ability to spin it, though, that scouts who like him project an average future breaking ball. Teams that believe in the projection could take Moran as high as the third or fourth round if he's signable away from his Utah commitment.
