  Dean had an enigmatic spring that included a suspension from the California Interscholastic Federation for transferring schools. He pressed upon his return to action and it showed as he got off to a brutal start. Dean also vexed scouts by committing to Brigham Young, though he is not a member of the Mormon church. Dean had come into the spring as a priority follow thanks to a previously strong high school career and a fine showing on last summer's showcase circuit. Dean's best trait, his physically developed body, includes good present strength and requires little projection. He has an above-average arm and runs well enough to play center presently. His bat has struggled this spring, and while he has above-average raw power, he just wasn't getting to it this spring, hitting .200 into mid-May.
