Masters grew up outside St. Louis and was a 50th-round pick by the Diamondbacks out of high school in 2011. He spent his freshman year at Arkansas, but sought more playing time and headed to Central Arizona. A second cousin of actor Jon Hamm, Masters shows the slickness of Don Draper on defense. He has a lean, athletic frame at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds and shows above-average range (though he's a below-average runner), hands and arm strength at shortstop. If he showed more with the bat, he would shoot up draft boards especially in a class so thin on college shortstops. Scouts who like him see him as a Brendan Ryan type, hitting at the bottom of a lineup with a glove good enough to outweigh his shortcomings at the plate. He is committed to Missouri State.
