  Russell earns comparisons to major league outfielder Hunter Pence because he produces while looking awkward and unconventional. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Russell doesn't look like a shortstop, and his average arm and fringy actions eventually push him to third base or perhaps second, though he may lack the quick feet for the keystone. A three-year starter for the Tar Heels, Russell has a good internal clock and knack for making plays. He learned to pull the ball with more authority this spring, leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in total bases and hits in league play, and has a solid approach at the plate. He's a smart baserunner who usually makes the most of his slightly above-average speed. He has below-average power, with just six homers in college. He fits best as a utility player whose athleticism and savvy would allow him to play multiple positions as a pro.
