One of the most versatile players in the country, Carigg played shortstop, second base, third base, catcher, left field, center field and even pitched over three seasons at San Diego State. He hit .333/.429/.556 while playing standout defense in center field for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League last summer and entered the year considered a potential first-round pick, but he suffered a shoulder injury and a concussion and fell down draft boards as he struggled to do damage at the plate. Carigg is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound switch-hitter who is an excellent athlete but whose baseball skills are raw. He is an aggressive swinger who frequently chases outside the strike zone and primarily hits the ball on the ground. He makes soft contact from both sides of the plate and relies on using his plus speed to beat out ground balls. He projects to be a below-average hitter with well below-average power, although he has flashed some ability to get into a ball to his pullside. Carigg shows impressive tools defensively and can play multiple positions. He’s a plus runner with plus-plus arm strength and flashes above-average defense in center field, but he plays out of control at times and lacks instincts. Carigg is more raw than most college players and needs refinement in player development. His versatility and athleticism give him a chance to be a utilityman.

BA Grade/Risk: 55/High.
Track Record: Carrigg proved to be a versatile player during his three seasons at San Diego State. He saw time at every position but first base and right field, including three appearances as a pitcher. Carrigg hit .303/.357/.458 with five home runs and 17 stolen bases as a junior in 2023, and the Rockies drafted him 65th overall. After the draft, he debuted in the Arizona Complex League before being promoted to Low-A Fresno for the final month. Carrigg was assigned to High-A Spokane in 2024 and played 111 games while hitting .280/.358/.475 with 16 homers and 51 steals.
Scouting Report: Carrigg is a tall, athletic switch-hitter with the ability to do a variety of things well. He has developed as a hitter as a professional and shows bat-to-ball skills and power from both sides of the plate. Carrigg still shows just fringe bat-to-ball skills overall and struggles against spin and offspeed. Carrigg destroys fastballs and velocity, against which he does most of his damage. He shows fringe-average underlying exit velocity numbers but has both lefthanded and righthanded swings designed to backspin the ball to his pull side. Carrigg has mid-teens home run power but could grow into more raw power as he ages. A plus runner who will flash a plus-plus run time, Carrigg is an aggressive basestealing threat. His speed affords him grace at his primary position of center field. He’s not always the most natural defender but has the speed and range to make a majority of plays and should improve in time. Carrigg’s double-plus arm has allowed him to play shortstop and catcher when called upon in pro ball.
The Future: A versatile, athletic player with plus speed and sneaky average power, Carrigg’s outcomes range from all-star center fielder with 20-homer, 20-steal upside or a versatile role player. He is likely to begin 2025 at Double-A Hartford.

BA Grade: 50/High
Track Record: Few players in the 2023 draft class have shown Carrigg’s versatility. During his three years at San Diego State, he played every position but first base and made three appearances as a pitcher. Carrigg had a breakout 2022 summer with Yarmouth-Dennis of the Cape Cod League and carried a late first-round buzz entering the season. He dealt with a shoulder injury and a concussion, which impacted his production. Carrigg dropped to the Rockies in the supplemental second round and signed for an above-slot bonus of $1.3 million. He debuted in the Arizona Complex League, put up gaudy numbers over 13 games and earned a promotion to Low-A Fresno for the final month of the season.
Scouting Report: Carrigg is a switch-hitting tool shed with a wide range of outcomes but a strong foundation of baseball skills. Some parts of his swing work, but he rotates his hips east to west as opposed to north to south, keeping him from landing before he rotates. He has solid bat-to-ball skills but his approach is overzealous and he expands the zone too often. His swings are similar from both sides, which leads to nearly identical timing issues. Carrigg has never hit for power despite possessing bat speed and a frame that portends at least average power. Carrigg’s other tools are outstanding. He’s an easy plus runner and his speed translates to the field and on the bases. He has a plus-plus arm that plays anywhere on the field. In his professional debut Carrigg saw time in center field, shortstop and catcher. He projects as a plus center fielder who can provide average defense at shortstop and fringe-average defense behind the plate.
The Future: Carrigg is a true super-utility player who could be an above-average regular if he fixes his timing issues.
