After three years at Cal State Fullerton, including two seasons in the starting rotation, Luckham transferred to Arizona State this year, where he remained a durable innings eater who produced relatively unspectacular results. Luckham doesn’t miss many bats, but he figured out a way to get through six innings in 13 of his 15 starts this year. Luckham’s fringe-average low-90s fastball doesn’t scare hitters, but his high-70s slider, mid-70s curveball and low-80s changeup are all fringe-average to average. They are effective because he will mix them well. Luckham’s lack of a plus pitch makes him a day three draft candidate, but his durability and track record of starting are somewhat enticing.
