1999 Draft Report Cards

Draft Report Cards are back, by popular demand.

After a one-year hiatus, we’ve brought back a Baseball America staple from the magazine’s early years: a thorough review of each big league team’s draft.

We have broken down the draft into a number of different categories and identified the best candidates in each organization for each–with the help of scouting personnel from those organizations.

We no longer rate each team’s draft with a letter grade, because we believe a draft class can begin to be fairly evaluated only after each player has played a full season in the minor leagues.

BA scouting expert David Rawnsley prepared the analysis, with assistance from editor Allan Simpson. In addition to the team reports, they prepared an overview of the top candidates in each category as well.
